The Color Song Indigo and Violet
Children's Song Lyrics and Sound Clip
Laura Freeman
Indigo and Violet were walking side by side
Indigo got concerned when she heard violet sigh
Indigo said to Violet “you seem a bit befuddled”
Said Violet to Indigo “here’s the source of my trouble”
I read it on a valentine I suppose that it’s so
Roses really are quite red as everyone knows
But here’s the thing I don’t understand
It’s what I’m asking you
I just can’t seem to comprehend why they call violets blue
Are violets blue
Or are they violet
I keep asking this question
No one’s answered me yet
To some it may seem trivial a mere difference of hue
But are violets violet or are violets blue
Said Indigo to Violet I know what you mean
It takes indigo plants to dye blue jeans
Blue has it’s own music emotion the sky
But you hardly hear of Indigo I’m asking you why
Are blue jeans blue
Or are they indigo
I keep asking this question
Cause I sure want to know
I just want some credit where credit is due
Because it takes indigo to make blue jeans blue
Are violets blue
Are blue jeans indigo
We keep asking this question
Cause we sure want to know
Said Violet to Indigo no matter how we boo-hoo
We might as well accept it we’re both a little blue
