The Nursery Rhymes Sidewalk Chant
Children's Nursery Rhyme Song Lyrics
Divide your class into groups. As the students chant, they alternate slapping their knees with clapping their hands--or snapping their fingers.
The chorus is repeated each time by all, but after every repetition of the chorus, each group takes a turn chanting a nursery rhyme. At the end of each nursery rhyme, the whole class says, "Humh! ain't that funky now!"
Continue this game until all groups runs out of nursery rhymes. The last group to supply a nursery rhyme wins the game.
Chorus:
Huummmp Dee Dumpty
Hump-Hump Dee Dumpty Dumpty
Huummmp Dee Dumpty
Hump-Hump Dee Dumpty Dumpty
The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
Humh! Ain't that funky now!
Huummmp Dee Dumpty
Hump-Hump Dee Dumpty Dumpty
Huummmp Dee Dumpty
Hump-Hump Dee Dumpty Dumpty
A tisket, a tasket
A green and yellow basket
I brought a letter to my love
Humh! Ain't that funky now!
