The story of Chanukah

Long ago in the Land of Israel, when Maccabees did roam,
Few in number, but brave and faithful - brothers defending their home.
It was the Holy Land, where Judah and his band, had fought the terrible fight.
The Temple was a mess, and no one there could guess,
That soon everything would be right,

Chorus
Because a miracle was on its way, a holy miracle as plain as day.
Sometimes a miracle will light the light.
It takes a miracle to light the night.

In a corner amid the rubble, where one could barely see,
A little jar of oil was waiting, quiet, as jars tend to be.
Until a guy named Cohen, yelled” “Fellas hold the phone!
“Come look and see what I’ve found!
“It’s oil for the lamp with the proper stamp, enough, at least, for one round”!

Repeat Chorus

Through the darkness the lamp burned brightly, the Temple shone anew.
Still the future remained uncertain – no oil for day number two!
Imagine their surprise - they had to rub their eyes!
It seemed too good to be true!
The oil wasn’t gone, it lasted on and on.
Eight days of light shining through!
