Compost Heap
Children's Song Lyrics and Sound Clip
Laura Freeman
Oh the compost heap is a very fine heap
It eats all the vegetables I don’t wanna eat
Brother Russell’s Brussel sprouts
Sister Carol’s carrot stew
Banana peels, celery stalks, lettuce turned to goo ewwww
Oh the compost heap can take all the lawn clippings
Weeds, stalks, seeds and garden snippings
Pile ‘em, throw ‘em, Mix ‘em in
In a compost heap or bin
Turns it into soil food
Good for plants and good for you
Now to properly bake a compost cake make a heap of plant matter,
approximately half browns like dried leaves,
sticks or wood chips to half greens like lawn clippings, food scraps or manure.
Pile it all up, put it in a bin, bake it in the sun,
water occasionally, turn once a week or so
and viola in a month or a year rich crumbly compost
Oh the compost heap is a very fine heap
it eats all the vegetables I don’t want to eat
Bacteria and fungi
Worms and insects too
It’s so great they like to eat rotting honeydew
Oh the compost heap…
